New Delhi: In fresh trouble for Union Minister Nihalchand, National Commission for Women (NCW) is planning to write a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking action against him after he was accused of rape.
Questioning the silence of PM on the issue, the Congress has been demanding the BJP`s MP resignation after his name cropped up in the rape case.
Congress leader Shakeel Ahmed said that while PM speaks on the issue of safety of women, he is silent in the matter.
“A PM should not have double standards,” he reportedly said.
Another Congress leader Shobha Oza said that while despite Modi giving speeches on safety of women, Nihalchand has still not been sacked despite accusations of rape.
The case came to light after a 24-year-old married woman from Jaipur accused the Rajasthan MP and 16 others of rape.
She named him in an FIR in 2011 and alleged that he sexually exploited her.
The review petition was heard under section 376 of IPC (rape) after the Jaipur Metropolitan court accepted the Final Report(FR) of the police on February 10, 2014, Yadav said.
The Vaishali Nagar police had filed the FR on the victim`s FIR in 2012.
Nihalchand is the the Union Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertiliser and only MP from Rajasthan in Modi`s cabinet.
