New Delhi: Apparently peeved at the media reports, Union Agriculture Minister and NCP leader Sharad Pawar on Saturday dismissed reports that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has demanded any report on the extraordinary rise in onion prices from his ministry.
Dismissing criticism that his statement on onions prices attracted, Pawar said that the unseasonal rains were the main cause behind such an unprecedented jump in onion prices.
The Prime Minister yesterday met Pawar, who along with other leaders of Maharashtra called on him to apprise of the prevailing situation. The PM also announced a relief package for Maharashtra farmers who lost their crops during unseasonal rains this month.
Earlier this week, Pawar had predicted that the onion prices would not stabilise for three weeks, drawing criticisms from all quarters for encouraging hoarding.
