Polling to be held on basis of electoral entries till Jan 31

Polling in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections will be held on the basis of electoral rolls finalised till January 31, Deputy Election Commissioner Vinod Zutshi said.

Dehradun: Polling in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections will be held on the basis of electoral rolls finalised till January 31, Deputy Election Commissioner Vinod Zutshi said on Thursday.

Polling will be held on the basis of electoral rolls as per entries made till January 31, Zutshi said at a press conference here.

Eligible voters left out of the electoral rolls till that date may seek incorporation into the list by filling out Form No 6 issued by the election body under the process of continuous updation, he said.
Kumaon and Garhwal commissioners have been asked to set up helplines at all the 13 district headquarters to help people left out of the electoral rolls to register their complaint, he said.

Zutshi, who reviewed poll preparations in Uttarakhand with several political parties and senior government officials, said the administration has been asked to transfer senior government officials who have spent more than three years at their current place of posting to ensure free and fair polling.

February 15 has been set as the deadline for the completion of the exercise, he said.

Due to the June disaster last year, many roads are in a bad condition which is a matter of concern. However, efforts are underway to ensure that polling parties face no problem in reaching the required places, he said.

Citing connectivity problems in the disaster-hit areas, Zutshi said BSNL and telecommunication departments have been asked to restore mobile connectivity in affected areas.
They have also been asked to give wireless facilities to poll officials in areas with poor connectivity, he said.

Photo ID cards will be delivered on door-to-door basis to prevent duplication.

Guidelines and norms have been set to prevent misuse of social media and paid news, he said.

A meeting of state election officials with the CEC will be held in New Delhi on February 20 to review poll preparations, he said.
