Rahul Gandhi to begin Lok Sabha campaign on Monday as Congress declares first list

While leading the Congress in the forthcoming General Elections, party`s vice-president Rahul Gandhi will commence his poll campaign from Rajasthan on March 10.

New Delhi: Leading the Congress in the forthcoming General Elections, party`s vice-president Rahul Gandhi will commence his poll campaign from Rajasthan on March 10.

The Gandhi scion will hold a public meeting in Deoli town of Tonk district where the preparations for his visit are going on in full swing.

Along with Rahul other senior leaders from the party, including party`s state president Sachin Pilot, are expected to attend the campaign. Rahul is also expected to proceed to Bikaner after Deoli to interact with labourers.

Earlier in the week, Pilot had met other party leaders and office-bearers and had assigned them tasks to make Gandhi`s rally successful.
The All India Congress Committee (AICC) on Saturday had announced its first list of 194 candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls with party president Sonia Gandhi, vice-president Rahul Gandhi and IT expert Nandan Nilekani among the prominent names.

Rahul Gandhi will be contesting election from Amethi.

In its first list Congress has declared 28 women candidates for the elections which are scheduled to be held between April 07 and May 12. Moreover, 35 percent of the candidates are under the age of 50 and approximately 15 percent are women candidates.

The list also includes the names of Bhojpuri films star Ravi Kishen, Oriya actors Aparajita Mohanty, Bijay Mohanty, cricketer Mohammed Kaif, Atal Bihari Vajpayee`s niece Karuna Shukla,Justice Hanumanthappa.

Among the prominent Congress leaders Sushilumar Shinde will be contesting from Sholapur in Maharastra, Salman Khurshid from Farrukhabad, Sriprakash Jaiswal from Kanpur, Beni Prasad Verma from Gonda, (all in Uttar Prdesh), Kamal Nath from Chhindwara and Jyotiraditya Scindia from Guna in Madhya Pradesh, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhary from Behrampur (West Bengal), Parneet Kaur from Patiala (Punjab), Girija Vyas from Chittorgarh (Rajasthan), K H Muniyappa from Kolar and Mallikarjun Kharge from Gulbarga, (Karnataka).

Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar has been renominated from Sasaram`.
