Ramdev is a cheat: Digvijay Singh

The Congress general secretary said Baba Ramdev was trying to "agitate" people.

New Delhi: Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh on Sunday slammed yoga guru Baba Ramdev calling him a "cheat" who was trying to "agitate" people in the garb of anti-corruption protest.

Digvijay Singh said that Ramdev and the government had reached an agreement before he launched his protest fast at Ramlila Ground here but he "backed out".

"He cheated people. He is a thug. Media should know who they are giving so much attention to," the senior Congress leader told reporters, hours after police whisked Ramdev to an undisclosed location.

Thousands of his supporters at the venue were dispersed by police using batons and tear gas shells.

Digvijay Singh justified the "administrative" action, saying "laws and regulations have to be followed".

"You cannot allow people like Ramdev to run riot in Delhi. He had said he was going to have a yoga shivir but he was trying to agitate people. The administration in its own business is justified. This has been done in public interest."

The leader said that the yoga guru got "what a thug deserved" and demanded Income Tax probe to know about the source of his assets.
