New Delhi: A special CBI court in Bhopal has sentenced two Railway officials with three years rigorous imprisonment in connection with a 2009 bribery case.
Those convicted and sentenced were the then Assistant Goods Supervisor DS Rajawat and Head Booking Clerk SS Parmar of Morena railway station, a CBI spokesperson said. Both have also been fined Rs 25,000 each by the court.
The spokesperson said the agency had registered a corruption case against the duo in 2009 on the complaint of a person that Rajawat "had demanded a bribe of Rs one lakh for issuing railway receipt of one rake load of wheat dispatched in November 2009 by the complainant`s firm based in Itarsi in Madhya Pradesh".
Later, the bribe amount was reduced to Rs 50,000 and CBI caught Rajawat and Parmar red-handed with the amount on November 12, 2009, the agency said.
It had filed a charge sheet in the case in 2010 against the officials on various charges of corruption under IPC.
