New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday expressed its displeasure with several Union ministers who had reacted adversely to its verdict reversing a Delhi High Court order on Section 377 that decriminalised homosexuality.
The SC order had evoked sharp reactions from gay activists and NGOs, as well as senior ministers and political leaders who had said that the SC verdict was not in touch with the current times and that Parliament should pass a law to legalise gay sex.
Finance Minister P Chidambaram had said that the SC verdict takes us back to 1860.
The SC today said it was displeased over statements made by some Union ministers against its verdict on homosexuality.
Some of the statements are not in good taste and these are not appreciable, an apex court bench said.
While the SC refused to pass any order against the ministers, it did caution people holding high posts from making such type of statements.
It may be noted that the government has already filed a review petition in the Supreme Court.
