UPA government`s approach to security extremely faulty: Joshi

Kolkata: Veteran BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi on Saturday alleged that UPA government`s approach to security was extremely faulty and demanded that the Centre take steps to bring back all criminals wanted in India from Pakistan.

"The approach of the UPA government to security is
extremely faulty. They have not yet demanded the handing over
of culprits of 26/11. They are busy in cricket diplomacy. The
BJP demands that the government tell Pakistan in no uncertain
terms that all wanted criminals sheltered in Pakistan must be
handed over," Joshi told a press conference.

Stating that the unstable situation in Pakistan was a
threat to India, Joshi said his party demanded an assurance
from the Centre for a firm policy in bringing back wanted
persons from Pakistan.

"National pressure must be created so that Pakistan hands
over wanted criminals to India," he said.

The PAC chairman who recently submitted a report on the
2G scam, said like corruption, the country`s security was also
a matter of concern.

"While so much money is swindled on one hand, on the
other, the government says it does not have funds to provide
the Army with the necessary infrastructure, especially in the
border areas. If the illegal money can be recovered, it can be
utilised for the purpose," he said.

Asked about the reported statement by a senior Army
officer that the armed forces were capable of a US-like
operation in Pakistan, Joshi said, "if that is so, it should
have been conveyed to the government through the Defence
Minister. A public statement should not have been made."
