Washington: In order to stop snooping by the government, Google has beefed up the security of Gmail by encrypting all the emails that a user either sends or receive.
The change will affect more than 425 million users of Google`s Gmail service.
It has been four years since the search giant turned on HTTPS by default on Gmail, but until now, it had allowed users to not use encryption.
The effort is in the wake of the revelations made last year when National Security Agency (NSA) whistle-blower Edward Snowden told the world that the NSA had access to Google`s servers.
According to Google, new change means that no one can listen in on your messages no matter whether you are using public WiFi or logging in from your computer, phone or tablet.
