Washington: Google has reportedly filed for a patent on restaurant bill splitting in a bid to ease out the trouble for those managing group expenditures.

The search giant`s application titled `Tracking And Managing Group Expenditures` was made public three days ago, which explains the entire process of transactions of a group spending in a very technical language, but gives a practical example of a restaurant bill being shared.

According to website, if the company successfully patents the bill splitting and incorporates it in its app service, it might help people who resentfully overspend, even while sharing, get full justice.

However, the system can trigger unexpected behaviour from others who might just hack it to secure freebies on someone else`s expense.
