Website of Internet's big daddy ICANN hacked again!

New Delhi: The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) website has once come under the hackers' den. The non-profit organisation is responsible for allocating domain names and IP addresses. It manages the database comprising several customer names, email addresses, hashed passwords, and much more.

According to The Hacker News, the organisation admitted on Thursday that its server security was hacked last week and the usernames, email addresses, and encrypted passwords for profile accounts on its public website were used by an unauthorised person.

The leaked information may include user preferences, public biographies, interests, newsletters, and subscriptions, ICANN said, reportedly.

The organisation further said that no critical systems seems to have been affected.

Earlier too the website had been hacked. Less than ten months ago, ICANN website was attacked by a hacker, who accessed its internal system following a spear phishing attack in November, 2014.

The password was encrypted for the latest data breach by one-way using the bcrypt algorithm.

It is recommended for users to not use the same password for multiple websites and keep changing their online account passwords.
