Washington: After acquiring Tumblr for 1.1 billion dollars, Yahoo has announced major changes to its photo sharing service Flickr.
CEO Marissa Mayer announced the change to make Flickr `awesome again`. On offer is a cleaner design, an Android app and more importantly a full free terabyte of storage, maximum compared to any other photo sharing service.
The new look of Flickr will be devoid of the white spaces and blue links. Instead, it will have space for large photos. The user profile will have a cover photo followed by large photos in grid.
ABC News reports that the site will now offer a photo stream page where the photos of the users you follow will be displayed.
All the images will be uploaded in high resolution, unlike Facebook, which compresses the images before upload. Flickr will upload every image in full resolution with no degradation of pixels.
Google`s photo sharing through Google+ will also let users to upload images clicked through mobile phones or digital cameras in high resolution.
What sets Flickr apart, and makes it `awesome again` is the very storage space it is offering. No other tech company is offering a full free terabyte of space. Google gives 15GB of space and charges 49.99 dollars a month for a terabyte.
Mayer has also announced refreshes to Yahoo Mail and Flickr`s iPhone app, the report added.
