Five persons sentenced to life imprisonment in Odisha

Five persons have been sentenced to life term for the murder of a business an three years ago.

Jajpur: Five persons have been sentenced to life imprisonment by a local court for the murder of a business an three years ago.

 Additional District and Sessions Judge Rohitlal Panda yesterday convicted Meherban Ali, Sultan Ali, Bebula Ali, Liaquat Ali and Irfan Ali, all aged about 30-35 years and hailing from Matabad village, for the murder of Shaik Sajan, a local businessman, in front of his house in Upper Baruan village on April 3, 2012.

 The judge pronounced them guilty and sentenced them to life imprisonment under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (punishment for murder) after examining 17 witnesses.

 According to prosecution, Shaik Sajan was shot dead by the convicts in broad daylight while he was talking with someone over mobile phone in front of his house.

 Though eight persons were allegedly involved in the crime, only five were arrested.

 While one of the eight persons had died a couple of months after the crime, two others are yet to be nabbed.
