a Yangtze finless porpoise swims in a lightly-trafficked reserve on the Yangtze River in Jianli county in central China's Hubei province. Experts estimate there are only around 1,000 of the critically endangered porpoises, a dolphin-like freshwater mammal found only in the busy Yangtze River and two connected lakes, and according to Chinese state media, without protection the species could become extinct within 5 to 10 years.
