Abohar: In a shocking incident, a 17-year-old girl was allegedly murdered by her mother over a shared love interest, as per a media report.
As per India Today, police investigations have revealed that the girl did not committed suicide as was alleged by her mother earlier.
The incident happened in Punjab's Abohar town and police have arrested Panjpeer resident Manju and her lover Vijay Kumar alias Sonu for the murder of her daughter Diksha.
SP (D) Narender Pal Singh was quoted by the website as saying that they have also been booked for attempting to hoodwink the police into believing that it was a suicide.
This is how the events unfolded as per the report:
Manju informed the police on May 24 that her daughter had committed suicide. Police found Diksha hanging from a fan.
Manju then told the police that her daughter had killed herself because after her father's death, their relatives were not giving them a share in their property.
Police found the word 'Vijay' engraved on Diksha's wrist and a suicide note on the spot.
They filed a case against her in-laws and started investigating.
As the investigation progressed, the police found that Manju and Vijay had met on Facebook in October 2015.
At that time Vijay was in Saudi Arabia. Both fell in love and Vijay returned to India in December.
They reportedly started living together from January this year at Manju's home in Abohar.
Later, Vijay developed a relationship with Manju's daughter Diksha too.
Diksha was apparently not aware of Vijay's relationship with her mother. She supposedly came to know of it when one night she saw them in bed together.
This led to a fight between the mother and daughter as both wanted to marry Vijay.
Diksha engraved the man's name on her wrist with a pointed object to prove her love.
This allegedly made Manju lose her temper and then she strangled her daughter to death.
Vijay wrote a suicide note to save himself and cover up the crime.
