New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday deferred proceedings in the rape case trial against Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh till October 6.
The apex court also directed former investigating officer KL Raina to be examined as a court witness within four weeks in connection with the case.
The trial court had earlier dismissed two applications of the Dera chief wherein he had sought to examine former CBI officer KL Raina as a defence witness and demanded handing over of statements of the alleged two victims recorded in 2003 in the rape case against him.
The rape case against him was registered in 2002.
The spiritual leader, who has gained immense popularity after the release of his movies - ‘MSG: The Messenger’ and ‘MSG 2: The Messenger – has been asked to appear in trial proceedings of a rape case registered in 2002.
The Supreme Court had on September 26 stayed proceedings in the trial till October 4.
As per the enquiry by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), to whom the case was handed over in 2003, some anonymous letters alleging sexual exploitation of female followers at Ram Rahim’s Dera Sacha Sauda in Sirsa were being addressed to the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and the Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
Gurmeet Ram Rahim is nowadays busy promoting the third sequel of his MSG franchise, named ‘MSG The Warrior – Lion Heart.’
