Mandi: A dead leopard with its jaw and limbs missing was found in Beas Sutlej link balancing reservoir in Sundernagar in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh.
According to Revenue Officer, Sundernagar, Umesh Kumar, field staff reported to him that the carcass of a leopard was noticed in the reservoir yesterday and was taken out with the help of BBMB employees.
It was noticed that the carcass was tampered with.
A portion of its fore limbs and hind limbs were missing and so was all its four canines, according to veterinarian Dr Vipin Sharma, who conducted the post mortem on it.
The carcass was consigned to flames later in the the campus of Range office in the presence of committe members constituted under the provisions of Wildlife Protection Act.
The animal was a male, around one year old, weighing about 50 kg.
The exact cause of death could not be ascertained yet and it will take around two more days to finalize the report, Sharma said, adding that the death occurred few days back.
A case has been registered under section 51 of Wildlife Protection Act in order to ascertain the exact cause of death, and investigations have begun, police said.
