Jaipur: Jaipur-based Indian Institute of Health Management Research (IIHMR) Thursday announced that it will construct separate toilets for girls and boys in around 6,500 rural schools in Rajasthan.

The university has prepared a proposal to construct new toilet units and renovate existing ones under its Rural School Sanitation programme in the state, the university's President SD Gupta said during a press conference here.

Following the recent open appeal made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Independence Day, the university has developed a proposal to construct new toilet units in 6,500 rural schools for sanitation and hygiene, he said.

In his Independence Day speech, Modi had pitched for making provisions for building toilets so that women are not forced to defecate in open. He had said that all schools should construct separate toilets for girls within a year.
