New Delhi: Japan's Funai Electric, which claims to be the last video-cassette recorder company, is all set to say goodbye to the machine this month. The machine that revolutionized home entertainment 60 years ago was introduced in 1970 but was suppressed by DVD technology.
This Japanse company started the production of video-cassette recorders in 1983 and during its golden days was selling 15 million units a year. With the advent of modern technologies like CDs, DVDs the market of VCRs suffered a huge loss and last year Funai sold only 750,000 units.
The company found that it was getting harder to find the parts to make VCRs. A Funai spokesperson said that customers have been the company and asking where they can find the last few products, according to CNN Money.
Though VCR will soon be officially dead, but it will be always remembered as the king of home entertainment that ruled the world for more than two decades.
