UT govt to take steps to curb menace of plastic materials

Electricity and Science and Technology Minister of Puducherry, T Thiagarajan told the ruling AINRC members and opposition block today that the government would intensify steps to ensure the menace arising out of plastic materials was curbed by adopting the rules.

Replying to concerns expressed by members during question time in the Assembly on a question by Ashok Anand (AINRC), he said that already production and sale of plastic products with less than 50 per cent micron had been banned.

The government would translate into action, suggestions made by the members on intensive implementation of the rules in the larger interest of protecting environment and health of the people.

Earlier, tabling the question, Ashok Anand said already the menace caused by plastic cups, carry bags and other materials had come to cause hardships particularly during monsoon rains. He said the government should introduce a total ban on the plastic products.

The Minister said the government would introduce measures as per suggestions of the members to curb use of plastic materials.
