Kanyakumari: An independent town panchayat councillor was on Thursday found murdered hours after an alleged drunken brawl with a fellow councillor, triggering tension in Vannanvilai near here.
Police said Justus Selvan, Councillor of the 5th ward of the Pudukadai Panchayat, was found dead with his head smashed with a boulder and neck hacked.
A search was on for Congress councillor Durai, allegedly involved in the drunken brawl last night, they said.
Selvan and Durai were having liquor at a bar when a brawl broken out and the latter had attacked the former.
When Selvan complained to the local police, he was asked to come today as he was drunk.
In the morning, Selvan was found dead. The murder led to tension in the area.
Police suspect the hand of Durai, who is absconding.
