Poojas performed on Mahalaya Amavasaya today

A large number of people from various parts of the country took a holy dip in 'Agni Theertham' and performed poojas to their departed ancestors on the occasion of 'Mahalaya Amavasya' on Monday, official said.

Rameswaram: A large number of people from various parts of the country took a holy dip in 'Agni Theertham' and performed poojas to their departed ancestors on the occasion of 'Mahalaya Amavasya' on Monday, official said.

Mahalaya Amavasya is considered as a highly auspicious day for performing rituals to the ancestors and forefathers.

Special prayers and poojas were also performed at the temple here.

A large number of police men were deployed in Rameswaram for security, police said.

Meanwhile, body of a about 30 year old man was found at Agnitheertham sea shore.
