Coimbatore: Showing presence of mind, railway track maintenance workers on Thursday averted a possible mishap when they ran towards an approaching train and stopped it waiving red flags after noticing a crack on a line here.

The workers were on their morning maintenance rounds when they noticed the crack on the track between Peelamedu and North Coimbatore Railway stations, police said.

 

Learning that the Thiruvananthapuram-bound Sabari Express from Hyderabad is approaching the place on the track, some of the workers ran towards it waiving red flags and stopped the train, averting a mishap, police said.

 

The train continued its onward journey after the track was restored.
