Congress legislator VP Sivakolundhu was on Wednesday sworn-in as pro-tem speaker of Puducherry Assembly.

Puducherry: Congress legislator VP Sivakolundhu was on Wednesday sworn-in as pro-tem speaker of Puducherry Assembly.

Lt Governor Kiran Bedi administered the oath of office and secrecy to the 65-year-old Sivakolundhu who took the oath in Tamil.

Later, the Lt Governor, Chief Minister V Narayanasamy, Ministers and legislators greeted the pro-tem speaker.

Sivakolundhu, a first time member in the Assembly, was elected from Lawspet in the May 16 polls.

He would administer the oath to newly elected members on the floor of the House tomorrow, Secretary to the Assembly S Mohandoss said.

Congress has 15 members in the 30-member house, while its poll ally the DMK has two.

On the opposition side, AINRC has eight members, and AIADMK four. There is an independent member from Mahe.
