Govt to set up super specialty hospital in Karaikal: Puducherry CM

Chief Minister N Rangasamy on Thursday said that a Rs 50 crore super speciality hospital would soon come up in Karaikal.

Puducherry: Chief Minister N Rangasamy on Thursday said that a Rs 50 crore super speciality hospital would soon come up in Karaikal.

Talking to reporters after inaugurating an additional block of Haemo Dialysis unit at the Indira Gandhi Government General Hospital and Research Institute here, he said an action plan had been drawn to set up the hospital in Karaikal.

"This is the most urgently needed hospital in the outlying region and government has intensified steps to set it up," he said.

He said the additional block has an additional eight dialysis units, set up at a cost of Rs 50 lakh. Government had set up the block to provide free dialysis for poor patients as they could not afford dialysis in private hospitals, he added.

The CM said government was holding talks with centrally sponsored JIPMER to have a unit of the medical college in Karaikal. They were also requisitioning services of cardiac specialists from Chennai to provide free treatment for heart patients at the government hospital here, he said.
