New Delhi: Yoga guru Baba Ramdev on Wednesday said that Congress president Sonia Gandhi is like a blot on Indian politics. While targetting Sonia, Ramdev urged the BJP to field senior party leader Uma Bharti from the Rae Bareli Lok Sabha constituency in Uttar Pradesh.
Addressing a press conference, Ramdev asked why has the BJP not fielded a strong candidate from Rae Bareli.
“If the BJP wants to defeat Sonia in Rae Bareli it must field Uma Bharti from the constituency,” he told reporters, adding that he is even ready to do a door-to-door campaign for Uma Bharti in Rae Bareli.
Ramdev said that he has been forced to speak out in order to have his message reach to the BJP.
The firebrand Hindutva leader, who is contesting the polls from Jhansi on a BJP ticket, was expelled from BJP in 2005 but taken back into the party folds in 2011.
After Ramdev`s appeal, top BJP sources confirmed that the party is "seriously considering" to shift Uma Bharti from Jhansi to Rae Bareli, Accroding to reports.
Party sources also confirmed that Ramdev today spoke with BJP top leaders and made a request about Bharti`s candidature.
