Couple killed in road mishap in UP, locals protest

A 50-year-old man and his wife were killed after the motorcycle they were traveling on was hit by a tractor in Ekdil police station area on National Highway-2 following which locals staged a protest.

Etawah: A 50-year-old man and his wife were killed after the motorcycle they were traveling on was hit by a tractor in Ekdil police station area on National Highway-2 following which locals staged a protest.

The incident occurred last night near Pilkhar village when Nathuram Dwivedi and his wife Malti Devi (45) were on their way on the motorcycle and the tractor hit it, killing them on the spot, police said.

Irate locals staged a sit-in keeping the bodies on the Etawah-Kanpur highway demanding compensation for the victims' family leading to traffic jam on the busy road for over two hours, they said.

Senior officials reached the spot and pacified the protesters and sent the bodies for postmortem, they added.
