New Delhi: While Opposition continues to attack the Narendra Modi government over the Dadri lynching incident, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator Sangeet Som has maintained that there is no need for the Prime Minister to make a statement on every murder across the country.
Coming to the defence of the Prime Minister, Som, a BJP legislator and a Muzaffarnagar riots-accused, in an interview to the CNN-IBN, termed the Dadri lynching incident as a 'crime' and not a 'communal crime'. Som said that thousands of murders take place across the country and the Prime Minister cannot be expected to make statement on each and every crime.
Som further slammed the Akhilesh Yadav government in Uttar Pradesh for shifting the blame on BJP for the Dadri lynching case.
He also hit out at his detractors saying when persons from Delhi and Hyderabad (referring to Chief Minister and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal and AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi), visited Dadri no hullabaloo was created, but when he visits the area, it is blown out of proportion.
Stirring the political cauldron, Som on Sunday visited Dadri where he attacked Samajwadi Party government, alleging it was appeasing the minority community and innocent people were being framed for lynching of a man over beef eating rumour.
Som, who was accused of making inflammatory speeches during the 2013 Muzaffarnagar communal riots, alleged that state government was acting in a biased manner like it did during violence in western Uttar Pradesh two years ago and was shielding those who had "slaughtered cow".
"Like they had taken the accused in Muzaffarnagar riots in a plane, they have taken those who have slaughtered cow in a plane. Even when a person is killed, they have different set of rules. Sanjay Rahul Yadav was shot in the incident, but is anyone aware. Did the government help him," Som told reporters as the victim Ikhlaq's family met Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav in Lucknow today.
Meanwhile, Trouble appears to be brewing for Union Minister Mahesh Sharma and rabble-rouser Som with UP Police seeking action against them for alleged violation of prohibitory orders in Bishada village.
On September 28 in a village in Greater Noida, near the national capital, a mob dragged 50-year-old Mohammed Akhlaq out of his home and lynched him saying he ate beef. His family denied the allegation. His 21-year-old son Danish was left critically injured and is now recuperating in hospital.
