Home Secretary briefs PMO over Dadri lynching incident

New Delhi: The Union Home Secretary on Wednesday briefed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Office (PMO) about the Dadri incident - in which a 50-year-old Muslim man was lynched following rumours that his family had stored and consumed beef,

The Home Secretary also reportedly briefed the PMO on the report submitted to it by the Uttar Pradesh government and the law and order situation in Dadri.

With increasing political attack on the BJP government, the PMO is believed to have decided to intervene and sought a detailed report from the Home Ministry officials.

The Opposition has repeated questioned PM Modi's silence on the issue.

It is said that the Home Ministry received Uttar Pradesh government's report on the incident this morning. Without mentioning beef, the report said Mohamman Akhlaq was killed as there were allegations that he had consumed a banned animal meat, the sources said.

In its report, the Akhilesh Yadav government also blamed politicisation of the issue for the unrest in the area.

The report has named the various politicians who visited the area - including Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen chief Akbaruddin Owaisi and BJP Union minister Mahesh Sharma - and has recommended that action be taken against them, sources said.

The report also mentioned the measures taken to maintain law and order in the area and the compensation given to the family.

Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh today said strongest possible action will be taken against the culprits.

"Be it the state government or the central government, strongest possible action will be taken against those who try to break communal harmony in the country," he told reporters on the sidelines of a function in New Delhi.

In the Bisada village, the local police, who had been stationed since the incident on September 28, turned away Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader Sadhvi Prachi this afternoon.
