Newly-elected village head's kin killed over poll rivalry

A 34-year-old nephew of a newly-elected village head was killed and three others injured in a firing on Tuesday by alleged supporters of former Gram Pradhan Mahendra Yadav over panchayat poll rivalry in Mehnagar area here.

Azamgarh: A 34-year-old nephew of a newly-elected village head was killed and three others injured in a firing on Tuesday by alleged supporters of former Gram Pradhan Mahendra Yadav over panchayat poll rivalry in Mehnagar area here.

Supporters of former Gram Pradhan Mahendra Yadav fired indiscriminately on supporters of newly elected village head, Kamlesh Yadav, at Asusa village, Superintendent of Police Rakesh Chandra Sahu said.

During the firing Kamlesh's nephew Rajesh Yadav was killed on the spot and three others were injured, he said.

The injured have been admitted to a private hospital, where condition of two were stated to be serious, Sahu said, adding heavy force has been deployed in the village.
