Dehradun: A 32-year-old woman from Assam, who had registered a rape case against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Harak Singh, has withdrawn her complaint.
Singh's PRO Vijay Singh Chauhan told BBC that the woman has withdrawn her complaint against the former minister.
The complaint was filed on June 30 at Delhi's Safdurjung Enclave police station in which the woman had alleged that Singh raped her at his Green Park residence two years back.
However, the Delhi Police officials were not willing to divulge much given that the matter was politically sensitive.
According to a media report, a decade ago, the woman had alleged that Harak Singh, then a minister in the Congress government, was the father of her son.
The minister had to resign from the government in 2003 and face a CBI probe. However, he was given a clean chit in the matter. Harak Singh then claimed that he knew the distressed lady but was not the father of her child.
Rawat, who started his political career as student leader, has often found himself linked to scandals involving women. In February 2014, a woman had filed a police case against Harak Singh for allegedly molesting her.
The 56-year-old was a prominent leader of a rebel MLA group that walked out of the Congress in Uttarakhand earlier this year, plunging the government into crisis and prompting the Centre to clamp President’s Rule in the state.
