Kolkata: The CPI-M which witnessed a steep decline as a political force in West Bengal after a string of reverses in national and local polls, on Sunday admitted to committing mistakes in the past, but claimed that it had rectified them.
CPI-M politburo member Sitaram Yechury while stating this at a massive rally, however, took pride in the claim that it was only the Left which could own up its mistakes.
"We have committed some mistakes in the past, but we have rectified those mistakes. It is only the Left parties which can accept mistakes," Yechury said addressing the rally at the Brigade parade ground here.
Yechury also reminded the gathering, "It is only the Left which can stop the rise of communal forces in the state".
"We don't crave for power to loot people like the TMC did, but we want power to use it as a tool to serve the masses and the downtrodden," he said.
Former West Bengal chief minister and CPI-M politburo member Buddhadeb Bhattacharya said that the present government was "dishonest and uncivil".
The party's state secretary, Biman Bose asked party cadres to resist terror against party men by the Trinamool Congress in the districts.
"We need to organise protest against TMC terror tactics. If needed, we need to resist the terror tactics in every possible way," he said.
Bose stated that, "BJP can never gain ground in Bengal. It was TMC which made way for BJP in Bengal. We have to fight against both the communal BJP and the corrupt TMC. It was the communal politics of TMC which has helped BJP to gain ground in Bengal."
