Berlin: Germany`s parliament will vote Friday on the proposed bailout extension to Greece, provided international creditors have agreed to the deal, a top official from the ruling Christian Democrats party said.
The lower house motion will be filed by Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble and will be followed by a 90-minute debate, the head of the conservative party`s parliamentary group, Michael Grosse-Broemer, said Tuesday.
Grosse-Broemer said he was confident that "wide agreement will be reached," even if some people might harbour "reservations about making further payments" to Athens.
Chancellor Angela Merkel`s "grand coalition" government that groups her conservatives with the centre-left Social Democrats has an overwhelming parliamentary majority.
The German parliamentary vote will go ahead once the Greek bailout extension has been given the green light by the EU Commission, the European Central Bank and the International Monetary Fund.
Greece has submitted a list of reforms in return for the extension of aid from its eurozone partners.
Eurozone finance ministers will hold a conference call later Tuesday to discuss that list of reforms, Eurogroup chief Jeroen Dijsselbloem said, adding that the call would only happen if the EU, European Central Bank and IMF had taken a "positive" view on the plans.
Schaeuble already formally wrote to Bundestag members on Monday asking them to vote in favour of a four-month extension to the aid programme which officially expires at the end of February.
