The first day of the two-day meeting began with European Union diplomatic chief Catherine Ashton, who is chairing the talks, holding a private meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.
The disputed programme is condemned by the western powers suspecting that Iran is secretly building nuclear weapons. However, Iran has repeatedly said that its programme is only for peaceful purposes.
