Kuala Lumpur: In what is bound to exacerbate the pain for the kins of those on board the missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370, another theory has surfaced as to what might have happened to the ill-fated plane.

The latest speculation has it that the plane might have been “accidentally” shot down during the joint US-Thai military exercise in the South China Sea and that the entire marathon search mission might just have been a ploy to cover up the blunder, reported the Telegraph.

The new conjecture has been made in a book titled - Flight MH370: The Mystery – written by an Anglo-American author Nigel Cawthorne. The book comes just three months after the plane disappeared on March 8 with 239 passengers on board en route Beijing.

"The drill was to involve mock warfare on land, in water and in the air, and would include live-fire exercises,” the report quoted the book as saying.

"Say a participant accidentally shot down Flight MH370. Such things do happen. No one wants another Lockerbie, so those involved would have every reason to keep quiet about it."

"Another black box could have been dropped in the sea 1000 miles from Perth while the search was going on in the South China Sea," the book says.

The book has drawn flak from the already aggrieved kins who are still struggling to come to terms with the mystery.
