Washington: The US Capitol, which was put under lockdown on Friday morning after reports of a woman possibly with a gun entering the building, has been given 'all-clear' by the police.

The police said the US Capitol is no longer under lockdown and that locked-down buildings can be reopened.

Loudspeaker announcement on grounds says lockdown has concluded.

The police, while announcing the lockdown earlier, had directed people to take shelter in their offices with locked doors and windows.

Reuters had reported that the police were looking for a female who was possibly armed and was likely in the basement of the US House office building.

Police had said no one would be permitted to leave or enter the building until the lockdown was lifted.

It was not immediately clear whether the police had found the person they were seeking.
