‘Nepotism rocks’ jibe at Kangana Ranaut: After Varun Dhawan, Karan Johar regrets act

Mumbai: After Varun Dhawan apologised for taking a jibe at Kangana Ranaut by chanting ‘Nepotism rocks’ at the IIFA 2017 event in the US, filmmaker Karan Johar, who was also responsible for the distasteful act has expressed regret for what unfolded at the awards show.

According to a report in Firstpost, originally attributed to NDTV, Johar said that the act was meant to be a joke but “misplaced, misunderstood and went wrong”.

KJo was slammed by Twitter users for the act that was unwarranted. “I think I was raised to be a dignified, a chivalrous, and a decent person. That's the upbringing that I was given and I feel that I failed on those accounts. I felt that no matter what my thoughts or personal issues on this, I should not have repeatedly brought that up,” Karan was quoted as saying.

Even Varun, who was an active participant, took to Twiter Tuesday to apologise for the same.

He tweeted:

Saif Ali Khan, who was also a part of the act clarified that it was not meant to hurt anyone.

According to a report in India.com, Saif said, “I’m very fond of Kangana (Ranaut) and respect her achievements. This whole thing was never meant seriously and I thought it’s a joke against us more than anyone else (as clearly there is more to our achievements than nepotism!!) no harm meant.” Interestingly, Kangana had accused Johar of nepotism while she was on his own show ‘Koffee With Karan’ along with her ‘Rangoon’ co-star Saif.

Though Karan didn’t react instantly, he discussed the same during an event in London, thereby triggering a huge debate on nepotism! He accused Kangana of playing the victim card but the lady from Himachal gave a fitting response.

Since then, nepotism in Bollywood became a hot topic for debates!
