Los Angeles: Director Richard Linklater has called for "house cleaning" in Hollywood which has been rocked by multiple sexual harassment scandals.

"Clearly the industry is having a house cleaning of some kind. Obviously, it's way overdue," Linklater told The Hollywood Reporter, during the premiere of his latest directorial project Last Flag Flying.

"And it's unfortunate (about) the workplace in our industry? young people need to be encouraged and supported, not preyed upon," said the director.

The 57-year-old also backed the industry-wide call for making the business safe for everyone -- especially women.

"It's just the exact methodology to make sure it doesn't happen again... Everyone needs to come aboard. But I think that's going to happen. So that's the upside," he added.

Last month, The New York Times and The New Yorker had published exposes alleging that Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein has sexually harassed and assaulted women in the entertainment industry for decades.

Since then, more than 60 women, including Angelina Jolie, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Cara Delevingne, have revealed having similar experiences.

Similar allegations have also been made against industry A-listers: Brett Ratner, Kevin Spacey, and Dustin Hoffman.
