From sports bras to wigs, six weird ways used by smugglers to sneak gold into India

India is one of the nations where gold is comparatively costlier due to high demand and taxes. Smugglers try to bring in gold from places like Dubai to India due to a significant difference in prices. However, customs officials present at the airport often nab criminals trying to smuggle gold into India. Smugglers often use weird ways to conceal gold to smuggle it and the customs officials even found out that the criminals hide it in undergarments as well as inside rectum. Here are five tactics used by criminals to smuggle gold:

Gold concealed in wig

A gold smuggling case was registered against a passenger coming from Abu Dhabi at Delhi's IGI Airport. The customs recovered approx 630.45g of gold worth Rs 30.55 lakhs concealed inside his wig & rectum.

Gold concealed in trolley bag wheels

Air Intelligence Unit at Bengaluru airport intercepted two passengers travelling from Bangkok and Dubai to Bengaluru, who were attempting to smuggle gold concealing inside nut bolts of trolley bag wheels and buttons of kid's shirts. The customs recovered 244.92 grams of gold valued at Rs 12.49 lakhs.

Gold concealed in underwear

5 passengers arriving from Dubai were intercepted at Mangaluru Airport as they were attempting to smuggle gold in various forms. The officials seized gold worth Rs 15.96 lakh concealed in the paste/powder form mixed with solid gum inside jeans, trousers, underwear and rectum.

Gold worth Rs 1.05 crore  hidden in car wash pump

Based on intelligence, one male passenger who arrived from Abu Dhabi was intercepted by the Chennai Air Customs Officers. On examination, 9 discs of Silver coated Gold ingeniously concealed inside the motor of a car wash pump were recovered, resulting in a recovery of 2.42 kgs of 24K purity Gold valued at Rs 1.05 crores.

Rs 39.13 lakhs gold concealed in rectum, undergarments

On October 19, a passenger who arrived from Bangkok was intercepted by Chennai Air Customs Officers. On examination, 3 bundles of Gold in paste form were found concealed in his rectum and one gold bit was recovered from his undergarment. A total of 894 gms of Gold worth Rs 39.13 lakhs was recovered from him.

Gold concealed in a Sports Bra

A woman smuggler was caught by Bengaluru customs when she landed at the airport from Dubai. The woman's unusual walking posture raised suspicion and upon being questioned, the customs department recovered gold paste worth Rs 17.53 lakh concealed in her sports bra.
