Major smartphones launched in 2018

Some really cool smartphones were launched in 2017. From Apple's most expensive iPhones to Samsung's Galaxy Note 9 to a host of Chinese smartphones that captured the imagination of Indian smartphone enthusiasts this year. Let's take a look at some of the major smartphone launches of 2018.

Apple iPhone

Apple launched three iPhones this year — iPhone Xs , iPhone Xs Max, iPhone Xr. The Cupertino-headquartered company also launched the new Series 4 smartwatch. While iPhone Xs comes with 5.8 inch display, iPhone Xs Max comes with 6.5 inch display. The iPhone Xr comes with 6.1 inch LCD display. iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max are available in three colours – gold, silver and space grey. The two variants come with Super Retina OLED display, 3D touch, True tone display, Dolby vision and HDR10. They are also powered with the most secure facial recognition. iPhone Xr, made of aluminium, with an edge-to-edge liquid retina display, comes in six finishes.

OnePlus 6T

Chinese handset maker OnePlus launched the most anticipated flagship – the OnePlus 6T in October. The OnePlus 6 features a 6.41-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with 19.5:9 aspect ratio. With 2340x1080 pixels screen resolution, the phone comes with Corning Gorilla Glass 6 protection.

Under the hood, the phone is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor coupled with with 6GB and 8GB LPDDR4X RAM, 16MP + 20 MP Dual LED flash rear camera and a 16MP front camera. The phone has a bigger 3700mAh battery. OnePlus has dropped the headphone jack on the 6T.

Google Pixel 3 XL and Pixel 3

Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL were launched in October. The Pixel 3 comes with a 5.5-inch OLED display with while Pixel 3 XL sports a 6-inch OLED display. Both the smartphones come with 8MP+8MP front-facing cameras. Google Pixel 3 packs a 2915mAh battery while the Pixel 3 XL comes with a 3430mAh battery.

Samsung Galaxy Note 9

Samsung launched its flagship Galaxy Note 9 -- a device with a mammoth 1TB memory, bigger battery and a Bluetooth-equipped S Pen in August. The 6.4-inch Note 9 comes with 6GB RAM and 128GB in-built internal memory.

Huawei Mate 20 Pro

Chinese smartphone maker Huawei launched Mate 20 Pro powered by the 5G-ready 7nm Kirin 980 chipset. The Mate 20 Pro features Leica-branded triple camera at the rear with a 40MP wide-angle lens, a 20MP ultra-wide angle lens and an 8MP telephoto lens. There is a 24MP front camera for selfies.

Xiaomi Phones

Chinese handset maker Xiaomi launched a host of smartphone models this year that ranged from Redmi Note 5 series, Y2, Mi A2, Poco F1, Redmi 6 Pro and Redmi 6 Pro to name a few.
