Famous faces who bite the dust in Bihar Assembly Election 2020: In pics

New Delhi: The Bihar Assembly Elections result 2020 that came out in the early hours on Wednesday (November 11, 2020) saw the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) securing a majority in the 243-member assembly state. The Rashtriya Janata Dal-led grand alliance gave a tough fight but couldn't win the majority. 

Of the 243 seats, 125 were gone in favour of the ruling coalition headed by Janata Dal (United) supremo and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and 110 to the rival Grand Alliance.

However, there were many prominent and known leaders who had to face the defeat.

Here are the few of the famous faces that bite the dust in the Bihar Assembly Election 2020.

Rakesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav who formed his own party named the Jan Adhikar Party (JAP) to contest the 2015 assembly polls, has witnessed yet another loss in 2020. Yadav, who was a former RJD MP from the Madhepura assembly seat contested from the same seat and lost to an RJD candidate.

Yadav got 26,462 votes and the winner Chandra Shekhar received 79,839 votes.

The Pappu Yadav-led JAP had decided to forge a poll alliance with three other political outfits including Chandrasekhar Azad's Azad Samaj Party, to fight the Bihar polls. The new coalition named the Progressive Democratic Alliance (PDA) also included the Bahujan Mukti Party (BMP) and MK Faizi's Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI).

Pushpam Priya, a London School of Economics (LSE) alumnus and the daughter of former Janata Dal-United (JDU) MLC Binod Choudhary, who had entered politics with her own 'Plurals Party' and declared herself a contender for the Bihar Chief ministerial post, has lost poorly in the Bihar Assembly election 2020.

The 28-year old had contested from the Bankipur assembly constituency in Patna district and the Bisfi seat in Madhubani district. She received 5,189 votes (3.69%) on the Bankipur seat.

In Bisfi, she couldn't even get more votes than the None of the Above (NOTA) option. While she got 1,521 votes (0.85%), close to 3,000 people chose the NOTA option.

Actor-turned-politician Shatrughan Sinha's son Luv Sinha who entered the political circuit by contesting the Bihar assembly election 2020 has lost against BJP's three-time MLA Nitin Navin on the Bankipore seat.

The 37-year old Congress candidate got 43,908 votes while BJP's Nitin Nabin won with 82,873 votes.

Lovely Anand, the wife of jailed politician Anand Mohan Singh lost to Bharatiya Janata Party's Alok Ranjan by a margin of 19,679 votes on the Saharsa constituency.

The RJD candidate received 36.93 per cent of the votes (83,859) as against Alok Ranjan's 45.59 per cent (1,03,538).

Veteran socialist leader Sharad Yadav's daughter Subhashini Bundela lost in Bihariganj.

She received 62,820 votes and lost to JD(U)'s Niranjan Kumar Mehta who got 81,531 votes.

Former Bihar minister and Janata Dal (United) leader Chandrika Roy who contested the Bihar assembly election from Parsa in Saran district, has lost the seat to RJD's Chote Lal Ray. While Chote Lal won 68,316 votes, Chandrika Roy received 51,023.

A six-time MLA, Roy won the Parsa seat five times between 1985 and the February 2005 polls.

In what could be called a close fight, the RJD's prominent leader Abdul Bari Siddiqui lost the Bihar Assembly election 2020 from the Keoti assembly constituency against BJP's Murari Mohan Jha.

Siddiqui got 71,246 votes while Jha bagged 76,372 votes.
