The intense summer conditions in India continue to prevail with IMD’s latest update predicting a fresh spell of a heatwave in Delhi in the coming week. The maximum temperature at the Safdarjung Observatory, Delhi's base station, rose to 41.4 degrees Celsius on Wednesday and is predicted to touch the 43-degree mark on May 12 as moisture-carrying easterly winds make way for hot and dry westerlies. The minimum temperature settled at 28 degrees Celsius, three notches more than normal.
As temperatures started soaring again in many parts of the country, the Ministry of Education on Wednesday issued protective guidelines to schools for combating the ill effects of a heatwave, asking them to relax the uniform norms, restrict outdoor activities and modify timings.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had on May 5 chaired a meeting to review preparations for heatwave management and monsoon preparedness in which he stressed the need to take all measures to avoid deaths due to heatwave or fire incidents.
Meanwhile, amid the heatwave conditions, here's a slide show of the hottest to coolest Indian cities last week.
