How Gujarat geared up to face effects of Cyclone Vayu

Cyclone Vayu has coastal areas of Gujarat firmly in its sights although it will not directly hit land.

Cyclone Vayu raced towards Gujarat's coastline even if it is only expected to pass by the city of Veraval, bringing with it heavy to very heavy rainfall as well as winds of upto 150kmph.

Gujarat has been working overtime to ensure that loss of life and damage to property is kept as low as is possible in the wake of Cyclone Vayu. Wind speeds of up to 150kmph and very heavy showers are likely in coastal areas of the state. (ANI photo).

The Indian Air Force has been flying its C-17 on repeat missions with NDRF personnel and relief materials to different parts of coastal Gujarat.

NDRF personnel have been helping in the evacuation process. It is estimated that close to three lakh people in low-lying areas of the state have been moved to safer locations. There are 700 shelter homes that would provide refuge. (PIB photo)
