The national capital is likely to witness partly cloudy skies but there are no chances of rainfall during the day, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted on Thursday. The Met office predicted that the maximum temperature of the day is likely to hover around 35 degrees Celsius. Earlier, IMD had predicted light rainfall on September 30 and October 1, whereas heavy thundershowers are possible on October 2 and 3 in the national capital.

Extremely heavy rains predicted in Mumbai, parts of Maharashtra

The weather department has predicted that the financial capital of the country is going to witness intense to very intense spells of rain. 'Extremely heavy rains' are expected at a few places in Marathwada, Mumbai, and other parts of Konkan in the next 24 hours, the weather department predicted on Wednesday. Additional commissioner of Thane Municipal Corporation Sandeep Malvi said, "Due to cyclonic storm Gulab, heavy rain has been predicted in Palghar district, in view of which Palghar Collector Dr Manik Gursal appealed to the citizens to take proper precautions."

Kolkata likely to receive heavy rainfall

IMD officials said that Kolkata is likely to recieve heavy rainfall in various districts on Thursday. Heavy rain is likely to occur at certain places over Purulia, Bankura, and West Bardhaman districts, the weather office said. IMD has also issued a yellow alert for heavy rains in two districts, including Burdwan, Purulia, Bankura, 24 Parganas, Howrah and Hooghly.

No rainfall in Chennai, isolated rainfall likely in parts of Tamil Nadu

The weather department has not predicted any rainfall in the city today, but isolated rainfall will take place in some parts of Tamil Nadu. Southwest Bay is likely to provide for a few days of good thunderstorm activity over Tamil Nadu, particularly the interior parts. The simultaneous weakening of westerlies will trigger a zone of wind convergence over the interior areas of Tamil Nadu providing conducive conditions for thunderstorms to develop.

Gujarat to receive rainfall

The remnants of Cyclone Gulab are likely to enter the Arabian Sea on September 30 and intensify into a cyclonic storm and then move towards Pakistan, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Wednesday. Many areas in Gujarat are likely to receive rainfall due to the remnants of Cyclone Gulab.

The head of Meteorological Centre of Hyderabad Dr K Nagaratna said that as the Cyclone Gulab weakened into a depression over Telangana, "Under its influence, light to moderate rain is expected at a few places with heavy rain at isolated places within the next 24 hours."
