Gandhiji was assassinated on January 30, 1948 at Birla House in New Delhi, now known as Gandhi Smriti. At that time, he was 79 years old. According to reports, Gandhiji was shot at 5:12 pm. The father of the nation died shortly after that. The 34-year-old Nathuram Godse shot him 3 times from point blank range. A Beretta M 1934 semi-automatic pistol was used for the killing.
