Mehbooba Mufti placed under house arrest again

Former J&K chief minister and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti has been placed under house arrest at her residence in Srinagar, sources said. Mufti had protested in Jammu against the alleged killing of civilians in the Hyderpora encounter. "I am protesting because this government kills civilians in the name of militancy. Nobody knows if militants are being killed. Three civilians have been killed recently. The government refuses to hand over their dead bodies to the families despite the latter’s demand," Mufti had told media persons.

Rajnath Singh to inaugurate revamped war memorial in eastern Ladakh today

A newly-revamped war memorial in Ladakh's Rezang La, which was built to honour the 13 Kumaon regiment that defeated the Chinese Army during the 1962 war, will be inaugurated today (November 18) by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. The inaugration will coincide with the 59th anniversary of the Rezang La battle.  Now the general public, including the tourists, will be allowed to go to the memorial and border areas which will further popularise the legendary battle.

Manika Batra’s match-fixing allegation to be enquired by 3-member committee

The Delhi High Court directed the constitution of a three-member committee to look into star Table Tennis player Manika Batra’s allegation of a match-fixing attempt by the national coach and sought an interim report in four weeks. Justice Rekha Palli, who was hearing Batra's petition alleging that Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) was carrying out its selection processes in a non-transparent manner and targeting certain individuals such as herself, said that based on the committee's report, she would consider the issue of appointing an administrator to run the national sports body.
