Rainfall alert: Several states likely to witness heavy showers in the coming days, predicts IMD

The weather department said that overall rainfall activity is very likely to be above normal over northwest and central India.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday (September 16, 2021) said that a cyclonic circulation lies over the East-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining Myanmar coast and extends up to mid-tropospheric levels tilting south-westwards with height. The weather department stated that it is very likely to move west-northwestwards and reach Northwest Bay of Bengal off north Odisha-West Bengal coasts around September 18 and then move west northwestwards across Odisha, Jharkhand, Chhatisgarh and Madhya Pradesh during subsequent 2-3 days.

Under the influence of a well-marked Low-Pressure area and associated cyclonic circulation and active monsoon trough, the IMD predicted scattered rainfall with isolated heavy falls over Uttar Pradesh on September 17.

 

The IMD also said that it will decrease thereafter.

Widespread rainfall activity over Rajasthan and Gujarat

Fairly widespread rainfall activity with isolated heavy falls is very likely over East Rajasthan and Gujarat region on September 17 and increase in intensity with isolated heavy to very heavy falls from September 18 to 22.

 

Rainfall activity is also likely to increase over West Rajasthan from September 18 to 20.
