India vs Sri Lanka: Here's how Team India's five new recruits reacted to their maiden call-ups

BCCI on Thursday night announced the squad for the upcoming limited-over series against Sri Lanka starting from July 13. Shikhar Dhawan as expected was named as the leader of the pack, which comprises a lot of new faces in the camp. Senior seamer Bhuvneshwar Kumar will be Dhawan's deputy in the ODI and T20I series. Rajasthan Royals bowler Chetan Sakariya, K Gowtham, Nitish Rana, and Devdutt Padikkal, among others also earned their maiden call-up to the national side. 

With most of the senior players busy performing their national duties in the red-ball format in England, the selection of a host of youngsters in the squad was expected. Many of them have impressed in the suspended IPL and were rewarded with their maiden India call-up. Here is how these five cricketers reacted to the news:

A month ago, when the squad was yet to be announced, Nitish Rana was confident that he would be rewarded for his brilliant show in white-ball cricket in the past few years.

"It is there at the back of my mind that my name should come (in the squad) and I am prepared for that because I feel my name would come."

"If you pick and see my record for the last three years in white-ball, be it domestic or the IPL, I have performed well and I feel that I will get the reward for it today or tomorrow."

"And I feel I am ready for international cricket and I am waiting for that like they say one call away…I am waiting for that call…," the 27-year-old left-handed batsman had told PTI.
