The Indian Armed Forces defeated Pakistan on July 26, 1999. Since then, the day is celebrated as 'Kargil Vijay Diwas' to rekindle the pride and valour of the soldiers who took part in Operation Vijay. The day marks the victory of Indian soldiers in recapturing the mountain heights that were occupied by the Pakistani Army on July 26, 1999, known as the Kargil War.

Meanwhile, due to their great contributions to the country, some Indian cricketers and other big sportspersons have earned the honorary rank from the Indian armed forces

MS Dhoni

MS Dhoni

Dhoni, who had led India to multiple World Cup wins, was awarded the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel with the Indian Territorial Army, in 2011. The CSK skipper also served the army in 2019, as he was posted in Jammu and Kashmir for a couple of weeks.
