9/11 anniversary: Satellite images of the devastating terrorist attacks from 20 years ago surfaces

On the 20th anniversary of the September 11 attacks on the Twin Towers in New York city the satellite images of the incident taken in the subsequent days has resurfaced. These photos relive the horror of the deadliest attacks on American soil. See pics here

The satellite pictures taken by Maxar Technologies capture the devastation of the fateful Tuesday morning in 2001, the day that changed the course of history and made Osama Bin Laden the most wanted man in the planet.

Militant outfit Al-Qaeda was responsible for the attacks, as many as 19 suicide attackers hijacked four planes with nearly 246 passengers and crew members aboard. Two planes flew into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York.

While, the third plane crashed at the Pentagon in Washington, DC and the fourth one crashed landed into a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

Nearly 2,977 people from more than 80 nations lost their lives that day. The then US President George W Bush had called it 'an attack on the heart and soul of the civilized world'.
